We also blasted the MER121 consensus (412 bp) sequence to the entire collection of human ESTs (6,287,602 sequences, 3.35 Gb) and mouse ESTs (4,688,039 sequences, 2.18 Gb) deposited in GenBank We also blasted the consensus sequences of all RNA genes found within the REPEATMASKER library to both databases. Those alignments where >50 bp of the EST aligned and whose E-value was more significant than E = 0.001 were declared to be "similar." Similar alignments where >70% of the full EST aligned to the RNA gene consensus were identified as "significant."
