Even the brightest radio sources are at cosmological distances. Dots in the upper part of the figure show the positions of the brightest 4 × 104 radio sources visible from the northern hemisphere, and the lower figure shows a comparable number of fainter sources within 15° of the north pole. Their isotropic distribution on the sky confirms that the universe becomes spatially homogeneous on the largest scales.
