Mean (±SEM) avoidance of octanol (A and B) and methylcyclohexanol (C and D) of naïve flies of the rover (forR) and sitter (fors, fors2) genotypes (A and C) and the transgenic lines (B and D). Odor avoidance was assayed as the proportion of flies moving away from an odorant when given a choice between the odorant and air. Octanol was avoided more strongly than MCH (mean avoidance index 0.86 versus 0.83, F1,95 = 10.2, P = 0.002), but there were no significant differences among lines (F9,95 = 1.2, P = 0.31) and no line ´ odor interaction (F9,95 = 1.6, P = 0.10). n = 6 per strain and odorant.
