Sca-1-reactive protein was identified by immunoprecipitation and Western blotting in the ventricular myocardium of controls (C) and patients with aortic stenosis (AS). The Sca-1 antibody recognizes a band at 18.4 kDa. The mouse thymus (Th) and bone marrow (BM) were used as positive controls. Optical density, in arbitrary units: controls, 0.24 ±0.14 (n = 3); aortic stenosis, 3.3 ±0.4 (n = 5; P < 0.001).
