To ensure that the differences in infectivity seen in Fig. 1A did not reflect differences in virus production by the transfected cells, we measured p24 Gag levels in the supernatant by ELISA. Presented here is a typical result showing no significant effect of any APOBEC3G or Vif protein on Gag secretion. "None" means cells transfected with pNL-Luc-HXBD Vif in the absence of either a Vif or an APOBEC3G expression plasmid. Mock-transfected cultures released no detectable p24 Gag protein.
