Cover image: Cone snails belong to a genus containing 500 species of predatory snails. These snails produce small, highly structured, venomous proteins for capturing prey and combating predators. Active toxins contain a modified amino acid, γ-carboxyglutamate, as well as specific disulfide linkages. Proper folding of these small peptides requires the expression of protein disulfide isomerases to facilitate the incorporation of several disulfide bonds.
