Treatment of the cell with taxol results in chromosomes that fail to properly attach to the mitotic spindle and accumulate high levels of Bub3 protein at the chromosome spindle attachment point (two green dots, lower left). In contrast, levels of Bub3 are reduced on chromosomes that have successfully aligned on the spindle. This result supports the idea that Bub3 specifically monitors attachment of the chromosomes to the spindle. See articles by Martinez-Exposito et al. on pages 8493–8498.
