Cover image: Pictured is a reticulated giraffe at the Mpala Research Centre in Kenya. Tyler R. Kartzinel et al. analyzed fecal samples from 33 large-herbivore species in Kenya and found correlations between diet and microbiome composition. Diets and microbiomes both changed seasonally, but the seasonal sensitivity of diets and microbiomes to rainfall fluctuations differed across species. The results suggest that understanding diet–microbiome links could help explain food-web structures. See the article by Kartzinel et al. on pages 23588–23593. Image courtesy of Tyler R. Kartzinel.
